Museum of Florida Architecture Thesis - Alberto Gonzalez
Florida Atlantic University School of Architecture ARC 5352 Comprehensive Design Project (Design10) Spring 2009 By: Alberto Gonzalez "While large 'signature architect' museums have become, with the skyscraper, the most iconic architectural forms of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, the small-scale museum, working within the more commonly encountered constraints of site, size, and economy, is perhaps a greater test of an architect's mettle. Terrence Riley, executive director of the Miami Art Museum, once said, "All museums are local. They are frequently populated by tourists but they can't really survive without local support." This is probably most true when the museums are of a modest scale. They are sometimes empowered by the donation of a single source of wealth, but are more likely to be the result of grass-roots efforts by local citizens. The Museum of Florida Architecture project will explore the architect's responsibilities to client and to community, as well as to the contents of buildings for which he or she is responsible.' - Aron Temkin
