On Sunday July 24, 2011 the world's largest cruise ship, the Allure of the Seas, made it's weekly home port in Ft. Lauderdale. With her in port was the Carnival Freedom home porting between her alternating 6 and 8 night voyages. For a rare treat she was docked in the Princess terminal today. First Cruise

My significant other told me a year or so ago that he would like to take a cruise once in his lifetime. Neither of us had ever been on one and were unsure for how long, or to where we should go the first time. Since he was financing the trip, I let him make the decisions; other than whether I thought I would like anything longer than a few days to see whether I'd like it. We decided on a Royal Caribbean Enchantment of the Seas, 3 night, 4 day, Western Caribbean cruise leaving from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with stops at Key West, Florida and Cozumel, Mexico.

Getting ready for boarding and actual boarding were quite an experience in themselves, mostly involving waiting in line, and showing our passports and identification. Once we got on board, it was a four hour wait for our luggage to arrive at our stateroom. We had a reasonably nice stateroom, although the tiny shower and bathroom took some getting used to, as were the excessive prices for a bottle of water or a can of soda. Once we had checked into our room, we were invited to partake of the Windjammer Cafe's wide selection of buffet-style foods of every type. This cafe was one of the highlights of the trip, the food selection varied throughout the day from breakfast to supper, with something always available to whet the appetite.

On board the ship were various forms of entertainment including music, shopping, spas, live lounge shows, casino, colorful drinks, and pools for either swimming or sunbathing, to name a few. Much of what was offered was not to our taste; although we enjoyed the Windjammer, the live music and dance/singing shows at the Orpheum Theater, the more formal sit down dinners in the evening, and the site seeing on the ship.

We were happy that we decided to take this one cruise, just to see what it would be like, but I seriously doubt we will ever take another. It was an exciting experience, but a rather expensive one for something we were not totally thrilled with. We took advantage of the over-abundance of good food, a drink or two, listened to some good music, and saw some beautiful sites, but I think it was a once in a lifetime experience for both of us.

Other Caribbean states include the Cayman Islands, Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica – along with Barbados, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago. The Commonwealth of Puerto Rico is also part of this group.
The cost to cruise to the Western, Eastern and the Southern Caribbean are sometimes hard to believe. For about the cost of an overnight stay in a hotel, you can spend a night on a cruise ship – a price that includes all the food and entertainment they have to offer.
Western Caribbean
At prices starting at below $300 (per person and based on double occupancy), you will leave out of Miami, Florida, to spend five nights on the high seas. Your first and second nights will be spent at sea, but on the third day you will visit Roatan, Honduras, and on the fourth day you can take in Cozumel, Mexico, before returning to Miami. This cruise is aboard the revitalized Celebrity Century and its 314 rooms with private verandas, 14 new Sky Suites and 174 new staterooms, not to mention tons of activities and entertainment.
Eastern Caribbean
For around $500 a person (double occupancy), you can spend seven nights at sea visiting Samana, St. Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay. Aboard the brand new Norwegian Pearl, you can try any of the ship's 12 dining establishments or relax at one of the ship's 11 bars and lounges. This cruise leaves out of Miami.
Another seven-night cruise to the Eastern Caribbean is aboard Holland America's Eurodam. For just about $600 a person, you will leave Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas.
Southern Caribbean
For about $500 a person, you can spend seven days aboard the Princess Caribbean Princes as it leaves San Juan, Puerto Rico, to visit Aruba, Bonaire, Grenada, Dominica and St. Thomas. The ship will spend the first two nights at sea. You will spend days three and four in Aruba, followed by a day each in Grenada, Dominica and St. Thomas before heading back to San Juan. This cruise is aboard the largest ship in the Princess Caribbean fleet, offering almost 900 cabins with balconies.
Another seven-night Southern Caribbean cruise is less than $600 per person and visits San Juan, Charlotte Amalie, St. Croix, St. John's, Castries and St. George's. Take in the sites aboard Royal Caribbean's Serenade of the Seas, a new cruise ship that offers speed, comfort and gorgeous ocean vistas. One of the spectacular features of the ship is its 10-story glass elevators looking out at the sea. The ship also has the highest percentage of outside cabins in the Royal Caribbean fleet.

Fort Lauderdale is the perfect cruise port with beaches, Arts and Entertainment Fun

On the last trip to Fort Lauderdale, a friend and I were really with how the city is impressed grew up. When we were younger we used to come down here spring break and really enjoyed the area, an area which is now very cultural, but still fun.

We are always happy to Fort Lauderdale because the tropical climate is warm in summer and winters are mild, so many of our friends from the north down for a visit. The FortLauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is a great place for friends and family who are on a visit to South Florida to fly and be easily picked up. One of the world's busiest cruise departure ports, Port Everglades, is located just miles from the airport. This is handy for the four million cruise passengers each year get that by going to the ships that take them across the Caribbean, Europe and the rest of the world.

A great day trip if youspend some time in the area is the Everglades National Park The Everglades is pretty much a swamp, many birds and other animals live in it. The really beautiful and a great place to air a boat especially if you've never been on a ship of the air.

My friend and I lived in Fort Lauderdale and decided to go to Las Olas Blvd to the Riverwalk area. Maybe we came back for it, it sounds like fun.

The next day we decided to just relax and go to the beach. The Fort Lauderdale, there are 23 miles of beautiful beaches, so we knew we would find that we liked.These some of those who we have visited.
