Central Florida's Wildlife: An Abundance of Diversity

When you go to Florida, wildlife confronts you everywhere. Especially all the exotic birds fascinated me, often you come up close to subtropical bird species while playing golf or picnicking in a public park.

Central Florida is actually a much more interesting destination for naturalists than I would ever have expected. Both Florida's plant life and wildlife are surprisingly diverse and Florida is the 3rd most ecologically diverse state after Hawaii and California.

It is a nearly flat lowland that gently slopes to the sea on the east and west coasts. This lowland has unique physical features that are associated with the diverse ecosystems that exist here. The predominantly low-lying topography was created by fluctuating sea levels over time. Coastal features include dunes, barrier islands, lagoons and tidal rivers, which were formed by tides, currents and winds.

The interior of Central Florida is characterized by swamps, marshlands and inland lakes, a haven for birds. South of Orlando is the Lake Wales Ridge, a ridge of sand hills paralleled by flatlands and sandy rolling hills. This ridge used to be an island in earlier geological times when ocean levels were higher. As a result many of the species that exist here are unique to this area.

The Florida Birding Trail (http://www.floridabirdingtrail.com) is a collection of sites throughout Florida selected for their excellent bird watching or bird education opportunities. This 2000-mile trail is designed to conserve and enhance Florida's bird habitat and promotes bird watching activities, environmental education and economic opportunity.

Florida truly is a birder's paradise, due to its unique geographical location between tropical and temperate regions. Florida is also a destination for many migratory birds from the north, some birds fly 3,000 miles to get here. In total Florida is home to more than 470 verified species of birds. A great article about the different species of birds found in Florida can be found at the Florida's Birders List, provided by Visit Florida.

Some of the unique birds to watch in Florida include the following:

American Avocet Limpkin

American White Pelican Mottled Duck

Anhinga Pine Warbler

Bald Eagle Purple Gallinule

Black-Bellied Whistling Duck Roseate Spoonbill

Black-Necked Stilt Sandhill Crane

Crested Caracara Snail Kite

Eastern Bluebird Swallow-Tailed Kite

Florida Scrub-Jay Wood Stork

The only alligator we saw was a stuffed version at Boggy Creek Airboat Tours.

Naturally, one of the most well-known Florida animals is the American alligator. And although this time we didn't see any (except for a gator tail sticking out from under some shrubs on our Swamp Buggy Tour), alligators have made an incredible comeback after they were headed for extinction due to overhunting earlier in the 20th century. Alligators were taken off the federal endangered species list in 1987, and on particularly warm days they can be seen sunning themselves on the edges of ponds and waterways.

Timacuan Golf Course was where we saw these sandhill cranes, they are extremely tame and definitely not afraid of human beings.

Different species of fish also exist in Central Florida, a fact that makes it a popular destination with anglers. The species include large-mouth bass, bluegill, redear sunfish, sunshine bass, speckled perch, catfish and a variety of other sweetwater fish.
The wildlife of Florida is rich and varied, yet most of us are familiar with only a dozen or so species. Florida's amphibians include amphiumas, mudpuppies, newts, salamanders, sirens, frogs and toads.
Many interesting mammals can also be found in Florida, including armadillos, bears, beavers, bobcats, deer, feral pigs, foxes, manatees, minks, moles, opossums, otters, panthers, pocket gophers, rabbits, raccoons, seals, shrews, skunks, squirrels, and weasels.

Of course reptiles don't only include the American Alligator, but also anoles, geckos, lizards, skinks and turtles. Hobby naturalists will really enjoy their getaway to Central Florida.

A wonderful summary of Florida's wildlife can be found in a Wildlife Calendar at Visit Florida.

HOW TO ENJOY YOUR VACATION

You can finally pack up your bags for Florida if you've already found a home in Orlando for rental for your vacation. And here's where you should consider going during your stay:

Bayside Marketplace - Even if you'll mostly spend your time in Florida in your home in Orlando you've acquired by rental for your vacation, that doesn't mean you shouldn't explore other parts of Florida during your free time. And of course, what Florida vacation can be complete without a trip to Miami?

The city that rappers, artists, and everyone in the arts are talking about, Miami is the city where the sun never stops shining and the fun never stops. Before hitting the beaches however, consider taking a detour to the Bayside Marketplace as this is the ultimate shopping experience for everything related to beaches and a glamorous Miami lifestyle. It is also strategically located near the Port of Miami and American Airlines Arena.

The mystery must be solved before the night is over so put on your thinking caps once you cross the threshold!

Gatorland - Florida is famous for its theme parks and swamps. And swamps are inhabited by what? You got it in one guess: alligators, and Florida definitely has oodles and oodles of them, which is probably why a group of people founded Gatorland.

In this unique theme park, thousands of crocodiles and alligators are roaming freely to give you a hair-raising experience you'll never forget. Gatorland also offers guests to view the process of breeding and reading about them. Kids, on the other hand, can take a safer trip through Gatorland's mini water park or get intimate with less dangerous creatures like lambs, goats and other domesticated animals. And if you're in the mood for an outdoor walk, consider trekking through the tree-dotted swamp of Gatorland.

Gasparilla Pirate Festival and Parade - Orlando has its theme parks, Key West has its swamps, and Tampa Bay, well, it has Gaspararilla Pirate and Festival, of course. An event that has been celebrated for more than a century already, Gasparilla starts off with a bang when a fake pirate ship coasts into Tampa Bay with a crew of residents-turned-pirates.

And there you have it. Your time in Florida would surely be fun-packed with all those places to visit. And after each trip, you can rest your tired feet in your home in Orlando acquired by rental. Enjoy your vacation!

South Florida Real Estate

Why do people want to purchase real estate in South Florida? Maybe it is the warm climate, the diverse culture and the many employment opportunities. The South Florida real estate market has reached the double-digit growth scene over the past several years. South Florida has witnessed a real boom in condominium construction as well. The condo frenzy is for a fact playing a big role in South Florida's real estate market.

South Florida is a superb location. Its property rates continue to appreciate, and real estate professionals happily claim that for a long time to come the sky is the limit for property appreciation. Most homes are simple, yet plush and cozy. They include bungalows, villas, row houses, flats and apartments, as well as studio flats.

South Florida real estate has been developed by renowned architects with modern amenities. And almost every home has ample greenery surrounding it, with an appropriate length for a driveway, as well as a large garage, and a private swimming pool in the backyard.

Apart from residential South Florida real estate, commercial properties are all well constructed, with all modern amenities. Most of the offices are ready to use with appropriate furniture.

However, one needs to note that the real estate rates in this region are not standard, but differ on the basis of location. Some areas are considered upscale, where the prices are meant for the rich and famous. There are other zones that are more affordable. But no matter what one pays, there would be rich rewards in years to come.

Townhouses Vs Condos

Town homes and condos are so similar that people often confuse them or use the two terms interchangeably. So, I've included a set of questions you can ask yourself when you're visiting properties in order to distinguish condos from townhouses.

How are the properties attached? Town homes and condos are always physically attached in some way to other town homes or condos in the development. If the property is not attached to another property, it is a single family home (or house). If the property is attached on one (or on either) side to another property - but it doesn't have a property above or below it - you are most likely looking at a townhouse. If the property is attached to other properties on at least one of its sides and has a property above or below it, you are looking at a condo.

Does ownership of the property include the land it sits on? With town homes, the owner owns the land under the town house as well as the air space over the town house. In this case, the property is recorded with a tax map number separating the town home lot from the other town homes in the same development. Condos are different because the owner owns the condo but has no separate ownership of the surrounding land. Condo owners have a percentage ownership in the land that their condo sits on, but their portion of land ownership can't be separated or distinguished from all the other condo owners' shares.

Can a property be considered both a condo and a townhouse? No. A property should legally fall into one of the two categories. Occasionally you will find a property that looks like a town house because it will not have properties above or below it, but it still will be considered a condo legally. This is because the property doesn't have land to convey with the sale of the home. This type of situation is common in areas where the city will not allow a lot to be subdivided. The deed restrictions will stipulate the lot division between the condo units, but the property will share a lot or tax map number with the other properties in the building.

What if I can't distinguish the property I plan to buy? Since all of this can be confusing to even an experienced buyer, I suggest talking with a knowledgeable real estate agent. And, if it's a questionable property, it would be a good idea to talk with a real estate lawyer before closing on the property.

Fort Lauderdale Real Estate - How The Market Is Recovering From The Housing Crunch

The city of Fort Lauderdale in Broward County, Florida has more to offer than just the wonderful, sunny climate and pristine with-sand beaches. And while these are obviously one of the best attractions of the area, the city is also a vibrant business, educational and cultural destination.

The metropolis is famous for being known as the Venice of America, and has over 300 miles of waterways, so getting a home on a waterway or canal would not be as hard as one might think, and there are currently many options available for prospective home buyers, despite the glitches created by the current US housing market crisis.

Current Home Sales And Inventory Figures

The real estate agent's association of Ft. Lauderdale has provided a more current observation of real estate trends and news, which shows the current home sale listings and price trends.

According to recent property values and home sales information, for new listings, single family units amounted to 1,881, which is 7% lower than 2007, a year ago was 37% higher. For condos and townhouses, the listings were 2,333, and these were 17% lower than in 2006.

For total available inventory levels, single family homes were pegged at 12,142, which was 14% higher than in 200, for condos and townhouses, the inventory levels were at 16,438, which was 12% higher than in 2007. Close sales for single-family homes were placed at 391, and these were 35% down from 2007, and a year ago it was up 1%. The city's median sales price is $325,000, and was down by 7% from last year .

Has The Local Market Shifted To Favor Buyers Now?

According to real estate analysts, Fort Lauderdale's residential real estate market has began to shift from being a seller's market, where home prices rose up by 20% to 30% each year, to one that is now being viewed as a robust and vibrant, yet a more equitable environment for home buyers. In retrospect, in June 2006 there were more than 20,000 homes and condominiums on the selling block in the whole of Broward County, so with the high levels of home inventories, many consider this to be a good time to buy homes.

The out-of-state markets in Pembroke Pines, Weston, Miaramar, Davie and this city, however will take a little longer to slow down, because of the high-income levels of the residents in this bracket, and a small rise in interest rates should not be able to totally deter most of these folks from buying.

A more beneficial economic environment has helped Fort Lauderdale institute itself as a major state and global business center, with more commercial zones for new or expanding businesses and multinational firms. While formerly renowned as a tourism destination, this city now is supporting a wider array of industries, which include manufacturing, finance, logistics, insurance, real estate, high technology and aerospace, as well as film and television production.

The city's lovely Riverwalk serves as the the area's arts and science, cultural, and historic district, and features the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, the Museum of Discovery and Science, the Museum of Art, and also the Old Fort Lauderdale Village and Museum.

Italian Winemaker Antonio Sangueneti Hosts Wine Tasting in Fort Lauderdale

Last night The Naked Grape Wine Bar in Wilton Manors hosted Italian Winemaker Antonio Sangueneti from Tuscany. Mr. Sangueneti poured six limited production vintages. I am not a fan of Italian wines per se they're a bit to tannic for me. So I wasn't quite sure how I was going to objectively write and get excited about all these Small Vineyards wines, let alone face the winemaker himself.

Never, never, never judge a wine by its label or varietal or name, every single bottle and winemaker is different. Period. Now I know this but it was a blatent wake up call last night for me. The first three wines we sampled were whites, Trevisol Prosecco ($18) loved it! This Prosecco is light, flirty and fun. At $18 it is affordable and definitely drinkable daily, (so says Antonio!) (I bought a bottle and of course it's signed!)

The second sampling was Tre Donne Roero (3 sisters) Arneis ($20). This is referred to as a white Barolo. It is clean and refreshing with a short finish very much unlike it's red counterpart that is definitely more bold. For those who like pinot grigio this is definitely a wonderful alternative.

The final and third 'White' is Antonio Sangueneti Vincero ($17). This wine is a blend of Vermentino, Malvasia and Chardonnay. A very easy and approachable wine, in my opinion similar to Tre Donne Roero Arneis. So I said to Antonio this wine is so easy and drinkable, not complex, I could drink this like water. And his reply: "so what's the problem with that?" Well, yes. What is the problem with that? Mr. Sangueneti went on to explain to me that Italian's drink wine with food and eat food with wine at every meal other than breakfast it is a complimenting respect that goes both ways. This wine, the Vincero in my opinion is definitely the weekend brunch wine to be 'had' beginning at 10:30am with a delicious Basil-Proscuitto Strata.

And now we move onto the Reds. The first up is the Antonio Sangueneti Nessun Dorma ($24). Nessun Dorma means "none shall sleep", it is an aria from the final act of Puccini's opera Turandot. It is sung by the unknown prince, who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess. Any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded, and like any magnificent opera this is where the tragedy begins....but not for this wine, it is anything but an operatic tragedy.

This lovely 'Red' is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Syrah. This is what Super Tuscans are made of, a harmonious blend of some of Tuscany's cherished varietals. This wine is elegant and bright with just enough boldness to command attention. The longer it sits, the more like velvet it becomes, one can actually sip and savor this Super Tuscan until the last drop and this is the only tragedy, an empty bottle of Antonio Sangueneti Nessun Dorma. I have my signed bottle and will cherish it and the wine for a long time to come.

The second Red is Antonio Sangueneti Rosso Montepulciano ($22). This is the classic 'little brother' of Vino Nobile. This Rosso is a dynamic blend of Sangiovese and Merlot and is all about plums and cherries very fruit forward and just like the Nessun Dorma the longer it breaths the more like silk it becomes. And my second bottle of silk sits patiently in my wine rack just waiting to be opened!

And finally, the Antonio Sangueneti Caruso, this wine simply is described as a "Super Italian". It is a baby Amarone meets baby Super Tuscan meets Sicilian Nero d'Avola. Now take a sip of that and taste what happens!

All of these super-fabulous wines are small production wines which means there are only 400-700 cases made and distributed world wide. They are imported by Small Vineyards in Seattle, Washington. Small Vineyards seeks out outstanding Italian small vineyard wines. Most importers would never give these wines a second thought, regardless of quality, because there is not enough to make a brand but Small Vineyards sees it differently. As the importer, Small Vineyards understands that they are the bridge that brings the wine, the stories, and the passion of small family Italian winemakers to America.

The wonderful wines of Antonio Sangueneti, Trevisol and Tre Donne are available at the Naked Grape Wine Bar for retail purchase to take home or to enjoy at the wine bar. The prices range from $17-$24, a steal! for such high quality wines. To sample some of these wine there is an Italian Wine Flight this weekend at The Naked Grape Wine Bar $20/4 wines and a complimenting Italian cheese plate. I highly recommend you run and get your bottle or two or three and taste for yourself just how magnificent boutique, small production Italian wines can be and this is coming from a former non-Italian wine lover.

#90 Syracuse Orange Preview

Spring practices are in the books and fall camps will be here before you know it so that means getting an early jump on the 2006 NCAA football season. Knowing the teams now will save you time in August and Matt Fargo is here to help you get a grasp of what to expect this upcoming year. We go from worst to first in this 2006 College Football Preview.

#90 - Syracuse Orange 1-10 SU; 4-7 ATS

Fargo's Take Things were so bad on offense in Syracuse last season that offensive coordinator Brian Pariani was let go after just one season. The anemic offense was the biggest reason that the Orange won just one game last season as its 1-10 record was the worst in the history of the program. Improvements look to happen but there are still other question marks that will likely hurt the team as it tries to turn things around. New offensive coordinator Brian White will simplify the playbook while veteran quarterback Perry Patterson has worked hard in the offseason and has shed a lot of weight. The question marks start at offensive line where only two starters return and the remaining spots will be filled by inexperienced players. Tailback is always a strong position in Syracuse but that won't be the case this season as freshman Delone Carter could be the starter. On the other side, the defense was respectable last year but a lot of talent needs to be replaced. The schedule is not very daunting and playing in the weak Big East helps but Syracuse in far from even thinking about a conference title, let alone a winning record.

Returning Starters on Offense - 6 The offense was one of the worst in the country last season as the Orange finished 114th in scoring and 115th in total offense. During the final eight games last year, Syracuse did not top 17 points and no team is going to win with that kind of futility. A change at coordinator should help but it isn't going to solve everything since there are too many issues abounding that will prevent a significant turnaround. The offensive line is the biggest concern as is lack of experience at running back. There are no big stars at receiver so even if Patterson has improved as he showed in the spring, he likely isn't heading for a breakout season. He said last season that he was lost in the new spread offense so scaling back the playbook to go along with a year under his belt will definitely help his cause somewhat.

Returning Starters on Defense - 4 Syracuse had a very experienced defense a year ago but the problems on offense led to problems on the defense. The offense was second to last in the country in third down conversions and that kept the defense on the field way to long. A lot of that experience has departed but the Orange are not starting from scratch. Eight of the 11 starters are juniors and seniors and the linebacking crew has the ability to be one of the best in the conference, led by senior Kelvin Smith. The problem is in the secondary where two sophomores and a converted receiver will be starting. Syracuse finished 21st in passing defense last year but that was skewed since teams has no need to throw with big leads. If the front seven plays to its ability, the defense will be ok but still not a top caliber unit.

Schedule Syracuse is never shy about playing a tough non-conference schedule and this year is not any different but it has been scaled back. Gone are Virginia, Florida St. and Notre Dame and in are Wake Forest, Iowa, Illinois and Wyoming. Iowa is the only significant power and the Hawkeyes have to travel the Carrier Dome so it won't be a cakewalk. Miami (Ohio), another rebuilding team, is the last non-conference game. The Big East schedule is not difficult but four of the seven games are on the road including a contest at West Virginia. Following that game against the Mountaineers, Louisville comes to town which likely means the Orange will be 0-3 at that point with back-to-back road games on deck. The season finale at Rutgers is no longer a sure thing like it always was in the past.

You can bet on... Syracuse will improve upon its one win from last season but it likely won't be an enormous improvement. This is still a team in transition and if there is to be a respectable year, wins must come at home where the one victory last season was the lowest in the Dome era, covering 25 years. The Orange lost six straight against the number at one point last season and they covered their final two games only because they were receiving 33 and 36 points. Syracuse will be getting points in its first three games and two of those are on the road where it is 11-24 ATS since 1991. Over the last four seasons, the Orange are 4-18 away from home and have not had a winning season against the number on the road in eight years.

(Editor's Note: The rankings in this article are from the AP Top 25 Poll of sportswriters and sportscasters, and the ratings are from Jeff Sagarin. Ed Bagley's Top 25 Poll is just as subjective as the AP Poll or the Coaches' Poll, but my poll is just so much more fun to read.)

The great difference why watching college football games is so much more enjoyable than watching pro football is not because it is exciting-heck, pro football can be exciting too-it's because college football is much more unpredictable. College football's third week of action is an excellent example.

The fortunes of four teams-Southern California, Brigham Young, Utah and Georgia Tech-changed dramatically after losing this week.

Third-ranked USC, which beat San Jose State 56-3 at home and Ohio State 18-15 away in its first two games, flew north to Seattle and lost 16-13 to a Washington Husky team that was 0-12 last season. The Trojans lost because Steve Sarkisian, Washington's energetic new head coach, and Nick Holt, Washington's excitable new defensive coordinator, played key roles for USC last season; Sarkisian was offensive coordinator for the Trojans and Holt was the defensive coordinator.

Washington started its season by playing hard and losing to 9th-ranked Louisiana State, 31-24, before knocking off Idaho 42-23 to record its first win in 16 games. The Huskies now believe they can win and, believe you me, USC now knows they can get embarrassed by a team that believes they can win.

Washington's Huskies were rewarded for their effort by jumping into the AP Top 25 Poll at No. 24. USC dropped from 3rd to 12th in the same AP Poll. Washington's Sagarin rating also jumped 39 places in 7 days-from 63 to 24.

Seventh-ranked Brigham Young started its season by upsetting Oklahoma 14-13, and then trashed Tulane, 54-3. Unfortunately, unranked Florida State, which managed to get beaten by Miami (FL) 38-34 in its opener at home, and then slip by lowly Jacksonville State 19-9 at home, traveled to BYU and stung the Cougars, 54-28. BYU dropped to 19th the AP Poll.

Eighteenth-ranked Utah, which was the only undefeated major college football team last year at 13-0, slipped by Utah State 35-17 and San Jose State 24-14 before traveling to unranked Oregon and getting upset, 31-24.

Fourteenth-ranked Georgia Tech opened its season by looking unimpressive with a win over lowly Jacksonville State 37-17, and barely getting past Clemson 30-27, but found the going much tougher against No. 20 Miami (FL), losing 33-17. The Yellow Jackets dropped right out of the AP Poll, and Miami rocketed up from 20th to 9th.

Unpredictable? You bet. The chances of USC, BYU, Utah or Georgia Tech playing in the National Championship Game this year are probably nil; all of them were undefeated last week.

Here are 11 ranked teams that won and are now 3-0 and moving on:

No. 1 Florida at home over SEC opponent Tennessee 23-13. No. 2 Texas at home over Texas Tech 34-24; Texas Tech was the only team to beat Texas last year. No. 4 Alabama at home over lowly, 124th-ranked North Texas, 53-7. No. 5 Penn State at home over lowly, 125th-ranked Temple, 31-6. No. 8 California on-the-road over Minnesota, 35-21. No. 9 LSU at home over in-state rival LA-Lafayette, 31-3. No. 10 Boise State on-the-road over Fresno State, 51-34.

No. 17 Cincinnati on-the-road over Oregon State, 28-18. No. 22 Kansas at home over Duke, 44-16. No. 24 North Carolina at home over in-state rival East Carolina, 31-17. No. 25 Michigan at home over in-state rival Eastern Michigan, 45-17.

Six other ranked teams won. No. 5 Mississippi (now 2-0 and tied with Penn State at No. 5) at home beat lowly, 167th-ranked, 1-AA Southeastern Louisiana, 52-6; and TCU (now 2-0) at home beat lowly, 137th-ranked, 1-AA Texas State San Marcos, 56-21. No. 11 Ohio State on-the-road over No. 105-ranked Toledo, 38-0.

No. 12 Oklahoma, after being upset by BYU 14-13 in its opener, is trying to win back votes with shutouts over #178th-ranked Idaho State 64-0, and now Tulsa, 45-0. No. 16 Oklahoma State (now 2-1) at home over winless, 155th-ranked Rice, 41-24. No. 23 Georgia (now 2-1) on-the-road over Arkansas in a really ugly win, 52-41.

The Georgia-Arkansas game was almost as bad as Notre Dame's home victory over Michigan State, 33-30. All four of these teams are not that good, and you can tell that by the scores-none of them have a defense worth talking about at the moment. They could all get better in future weeks, but right now none of them are nearly as good as advertised.

Nine other unranked teams quietly went to 3-0 this week, any or all of them could keep winning and move into the AP Top 25 Poll soon. They include:

Southern Mississippi at home barely over Virginia, 37-34. Colorado State at home over Nevada, 35-20. Pittsburgh at home over Navy, 27-14. Iowa at home over Arizona, 27-17. Auburn at home over West Virginia, 41-30. UCLA at home over Kansas State, 23-9. Wisconsin at home over 102nd-ranked, 1-AA Wofford, 44-14. Missouri at home over 120th-ranked, 1-AA Furman, 52-12. South Florida at home over lowly, 162nd-ranked, 1-AA Charleston Southern, 59-0.

Seven teams should not have been on the same field with their opponent this week because absolutely none of them had any real chance of winning. They included North Texas, Temple, Eastern Michigan, Southeastern Louisiana, Texas State San Marcos, Rice, and Charleston Southern.

The biggest winner of the week? It's the Washington Huskies, hands down. Their 16-13 victory over USA ranks as the greatest upset by Washington's football program in school history. Washington just may become the biggest surprise of the season.

Abs Workouts - Sit-Ups and More Advanced Abdominal Exercises

Here are some advanced abdominal exercises to take those abs to the next level.

SIT-UPS

Don't you think about getting up! We're not done, yet. The next exercise is the sit-up. This exercise is one of the events in the Army Physical Fitness Test. If you're not used to doing a sit-up, those muscles will need some developing. Your motion should be smooth, no jerking your body up. If you can't go all the way up, start out by going as far as you can. You're on your back with hands clasped behind your head and feet a little less than shoulder width apart with bent knees and feet on the ground. Curl your body up to the point where you have brought your body out of the range of exertion. When you're out of the range of exertion and it becomes easy, then lower it back down in the starting position with the same smooth motion. That's one repetition. Perform 10 to 50 reps per set. If you are having difficulties, use a slow count until you develop those muscles.

REACH FOR THE TOES

You're on your back. Raise both your legs together as high as you can. With your arms extended, palms facing down and hands close together, reach for your toes and then back to the starting position with shoulders and back on the ground. If you can touch your toes, that's great. If not, do the best you can and keep working and don't give up. The muscles are still enjoying the benefit of being worked. Make sure you are raising the shoulders ever so slightly when reaching for your toes.

ALTERNATING ELBOW CRUNCH

Here's another great abdominal exercise. We'll call it the alternating elbow crunch. You're on your back. Your hands are clasped behind your head. Your left leg is bent with the foot on the ground. Cross your right leg over your left knee. Take your left elbow and reach for your right knee and back down. That is one rep. Use a smooth motion. Don't be concerned if you can't reach your leg with your elbow. Do the best you can. Remember, by performing the exercise you are working those muscles even with a partial motion. Now switch off by crossing your left leg over your right knee, reach for your knee with your right elbow and do it again.

ATOMIC SIT-UPS

It's time for atomic sit-ups. Yeah. That's right! We're going nuclear! Lay down on your back with legs extended and arms extended to your sides. The starting position is with legs six inches off the ground. Now pull your knees and your chest to the middle where you are in a position balanced on your butt. Your body is briefly in that jack-knifed position. As you move into this position, bend your elbows so that your hands are at your shoulders. Now lower your legs back out to the extended position six inches off the ground with your arms extended. That's one rep. Perform 10 to 40 reps per set.

Your Action Plan: Get to work on improving your abdominal strength by performing these exercises five to six days per week. If that's too challenging, start out with three days per week.

Can You Avoid Foreclosure With a Loan Modification?

Statistics show that in 2008, Florida was ranked number 3 when foreclosures were concerned. Some of the hardest hit areas were Cape Coral, Port Charlotte, Ft Myers, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Kissimmee. More and more people are being faced with foreclosure every single day, so if you feel that foreclosure is becoming an increasingly likely possibility in your future, do what you can to avoid it by considering a loan modification.

A loan modification is setup by banks, and it's a process with an aim to create a permanent solution for all Florida homeowner's so that they can continue to maintain their mortgage payments, save their home and above all: avoid foreclosure. A loan modification can help you to reduce your mortgage rate as well as extend the length of your loan or package past due payments, this will result in your mortgage payments being reduced which will allow you to pay your mortgage each month once again without defaulting.

If you are facing foreclosure, then you are in need of help, one top tip has to be to never ignore any mail or phone calls from your lender. Open every letter, answer every phone call, the sooner you are aware of your problem the sooner you will be able to take steps towards avoiding it, the last thing your bank wants is for your home to go through foreclosure, it's just as bad for them as it is for you, so the sooner you get help the better. The first step you need to take is to get a good foreclosure prevention attorney.

A foreclosure prevention attorney can help you decide if a loan modification is for you and if you are a good candidate for it. In order to be eligible for a loan modification, your monthly mortgage must be un-payable by you due to some form of financial hardship, this could include a job loss, pay reduction or even a mortgage payment increase. You will also qualify is you have an adjustable rate mortgage, or your interest rates are above 7%.

It is also important to understand that not every mortgage will qualify for a modification. For instance, under the Home Affordable Mortgage Plan or HAMP, the loan amount cannot exceed $762,000 and the property must be owner occupied. But in some cases your lender may have alternative plans that can still accommodate these certain situations and your attorney can advise you on whether you qualify for one of these programs.

Additionally if a loan modification will not at all be possible and you are eventually faced with the decision of what to do in foreclosure, your foreclosure prevention attorney can also go through all the proceedings and notes that were sent out to you in regarding your missed payments and imminent foreclosure. By doing this, they (your attorney) can identify places where procedure hasn't been carried out correctly and help you if you don't feel you were notified correctly. If this is the case then they can appeal your foreclosure and even put a halt to the proceedings.

A foreclosure prevention lawyer will have the knowledge and experience that you may not have, it might seem like an easy option to represent yourself throughout any foreclosure procedure, but it's a subject in which the laws are forever changing, so it's important you get the very best advice from start to finish to ensure that any modifications that are made to your mortgage are for your benefit and will not lead you further into debt in the long run.

Remember, if you are faced with a possible foreclosure, don't throw in the towel, explore your options and consider having a mortgage modification that could make your life a lot easier on you and your family by relieving the stress and worry that comes with expensive monthly payments that you are just unable to pay.

Places to Visit in Wiltshire

Wiltshire, in the south of England, borders six counties. It's beautiful chalk downland and wide valleys house many delights.

If you are wondering what's on in Wiltshire, there's actually quite a lot. Salisbury International Arts Festival is held every May and is usually on a specific theme. Some events are free, especially on the May Bank Holiday. There are also plenty of markets and music events happening all over the region throughout the year. Wiltshire has plenty going on.

The city of Salisbury is famous for its medieval cathedral and close. The building itself is beautiful and the spire, at 404 feet tall (the tallest in Britain), towers above the surrounding buildings, dominating the skyline.

Salisbury Plain is the site for the world famous Stonehenge, visible from the A303 road to the West Country. The plain is also the main training ground for the British Army.

Close to Salisbury is Wilton, the former county town of Wiltshire. The town is home to a fantastic stately home, still lived in by the Pembroke family. It has a stunning double cube room and lovely gardens which house a fun play area for children. Wilton House has a stylish Palladian Bridge and a noteworthy art collection.

A bit further afield is the National Trust property of Stourhead, near Mere. The gardens are beautiful at any time of the year, but in the autumn the different coloured leaves look especially nice.

Also worth a visit is the ruin of Wardour Castle which looks rather dramatic on a misty morning.

North Wiltshire has plenty to offer. Lacock is a National Trust village that houses Lacock Abbey and the Fox Talbot Museum of Photography. The village itself is not modern looking - it is old and charming and for this reason has been used in films such as Harry Potter.

Bowood House and Gardens near Calne make for a great day out. Gardens, a lake and adventure playground will keep young and old happy.

In Devizes you will find 16 locks of the Kennet and Avon Canal, all within 2 miles. Stop at The Lock Cottage Tearooms at the top of the flight for tasty refreshments and a good view of the flight of locks.

These are just some of the places that are worth a visit. Wiltshire is a great county to explore and should be on everyone's list of places to go.

Biggest Winners Among the Six 2009 Desperation Bowl Teams Were Florida State and Oklahoma

It was goodbye for legendary coach Bobby Bowden of Florida State, and welcome back Oklahoma as both the Seminoles and Sooners racked up the best victories among the six desperation bowl teams, so-called because of their disappointing regular season play and chance to redeem themselves in a bowl game.

For 80-year-old legendary coach Bobby Bowden, the day could not have gone better. A couple of youngsters saved Bowden's bacon. Sophomore Jermaine Thomas scored twice and ran for 121 yards, and redshirt freshman E.J. Manual piled up 189 yards through the air and scored on the ground as Florida State upset the 18th-ranked West Virginia Mountaineers 33-21 in the Gator Bowl.

The Siminoles came into the game with a 6-6 record, were down by 11 points after the 1st quarter, and came back to give Bowden his 33rd consecutive winning season at 7-6. West Virginia finished the year at 9-4. Bowden, who was forced out after a 57-year coaching career, finished with a 389-129-4 record and a 75% winning percentage.

No one has had more NCAA Division I wins except Joe Patero of Penn State with 394, making Bowden the college football's second-winningest coach.

Jimbo Fisher now takes over the helm at Florida State, which finished the season at 7-6 for the 3rd time in the last 4 years. It seems as if Bowden has been coaching forever. More than 350 of Bowden's former players showed up to witness his last victory.

Even losing West Virginia coach Bill Stewart had a tie to Bowden. Stewart was a 177-pound walk-on in 1970 during Bowden's first year as the coach at West Virginia.

Oklahoma came into the Sun Bowl against Stanford with losses to Brigham Young, Miami (FL) and Texas by a combined 5 points, to Nebraska by 7, and a jaw-dropper to Texas Tech by 28. No matter. In the end, Oklahoma upset 19th-ranked Stanford, 31-27. Both teams finished the season at 8-5.

The Sooner defense could not stop Stanford's battering ram Toby Gerhart, who rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Gerhart led the nation in rushing with 1,736 yards. Oklahoma's redshirt freshman quarterback Landry Jones was 30-of-51 for 418 yards and a TD, and sophomore wide receiver Ryan Broyles had 13 receptions for 156 yards and 3 TD catches.

Broyles 3 TD catches were a Sun Bowl record, and his 13 receptions were a single-game Oklahoma record.

Navy's junior quarterback Ricky Dobbs rushed for 166 yards and three touchdowns, and threw for another, as the Midshipmen ran over Missouri 35-13 in the Texas Bowl. Navy's triple-option offense racked up 385 yards against Missouri's 12th-ranked run defense.

While the Missouri Tigers were bigger and faster than the Midshipmen, Navy's undersized defense played with heart, holding the Tigers to only 65 rushing yards. The Midshipmen finished at 10-4, marking only their 3rd 10-win campaign in school history. Missouri ended the season at 8-5.

UCLA alumni and second-year coach Rick Neuheisel led his Bruins to a 7-6 winning season with a 30-21 come-from-behind win over the Temple Owls (9-4) in the EagleBank Bowl. Temple won the 1st half 21-10, and UCLA won the 2nd half 20-0.

A 2-yard interception return by Akeem Ayers in the 4th quarter provided the go-ahead touchdown. The Bruins, who held Temple scoreless in the 2nd half, allowed the Owls to complete only 1 pass in the entire 2nd half. UCLA's bowl victory gave it a winning record for the first time since 2006.

Temple was playing its first bowl game in 30 years. Despite losing, Temple coach Al Golden inherited a winless program that went 0-11 in 2005 and has capped a 4-year turnaround with the Owls' bowl appearance. Temple's No. 1 fan is Owl graduate and comedian Bill Cosby.

The weather conditions for the EagleBank Bowl in Washington, DC were 32 degrees at kickoff and a wind chill factor of 19. Many pundits thought the sun and surf boys from UCLA would fold, but they were wrong. Neuheisel called the field "an ice rink".

Georgia had a disappointing season by losing 5 games before arriving for the Independence Bowl to play Texas A&M. The Bulldogs used losses to Oklahoma State, LSU, Tennessee, Florida and Kentucky (yes, Kentucky) by a combined 78 points as motivation to rip through Texas A&M 44-20.

An 81-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the 2nd quarter by Georgia's Brandon Boykin sparked a special teams effort that subsequently led to 24 Bulldog points. Georgia blocked 2 kicks, picked up a 59-yard interception return, and Joe Cox threw his first TD pass when a bad snap by the Aggies sailed over their punter's head in the 3rd quarter.

Take out the poor special teams play by Texas A&M and they might have won the game. Georgia finished the year at 8-5 and A&M was 6-7. The Aggies' loss was their 4th straight in bowl competition. Georgia coach Mark Richt improved his bowl record to 7-2 with the win over Texas A&M.

Southern California endured losses to Washington, Oregon (by 27 points), Stanford (by 34) and Arizona before arriving at the Emerald Bowl to face Boston College. Even though the Trojans would beat the Eagles, 24-13, USC's 9-4 season record was the worst showing for Trojan coach Pete Carroll since his first season in 2001.

The Trojans lost 3 of their last 5 regular season games, and are clearly not the team they have been during the last 7 years when they won 7 consecutive Pac 10 titles, played in 7 consecutive BCS bowl games, and won at least 10 games a season for 7 consecutive years.

The bowl-game loss by the Boston College Eagles was their second straight after winning 8 consecutive bowl games in post-season play. Boston College ended the year at 8-5.

USC freshman quarterback Matt Barkley threw two TD passes to Stanley Havili and ran for another TD. Barkley was 27-of-37 for 350 yards. USC's Damian Williams caught 12 passes for 189 yards. The Trojans played without their leading rusher Joe McKnight, who became the Trojans first 1,000-yard runner since 2005. McKnight ran 1,014 yards for 6.2 yards per carry and scored 8 touchdowns, but was suspended for a possible team violation.

Panama Travel

With the continuing growth of Panama's Tocumen International Airport, Panama tourism has become an easy adventure. With direct flights from both Miami, FL and Houston, TX, Panama is little more than two hours away from the US. Other countries, including several in Europe offer direct flights to Panama as well, connecting Panama tourism with the rest of the world. The US government is very favorable about travel to Panama, listing only a small portion of the border area with Columbia as hazardous for travel.

When you arrive in Panama City (virtually all international flights to Panama come to Panama City), the first thing you will do is purchase a tourist card. This $5 document gives you permission to travel within the country for up to 90 days. Once you leave the airport, there is a variety of travel options to use: city buses, intercontinental buses, taxis, rental cars, airplanes and boats.

City buses - The brightly painted buses of Panama City are nearly tourist attractions by themselves. This is the lowest-priced form of transportation and an interesting cultural experience as well. They are called Diablo Rojos, red devils. Expect them to be crowded and loud.

Intercity buses - The country has a well developed bus system, similar to the Greyhound system in the US. For $30 you can travel from Panama City to San Jose, Costa Rica. If you show them that you are over 55 (with an (ID) you will go for $24. This is a great way to see the geographic beauty of Panama. In addition, buses are typical forms of transportation to remote areas such as Boquete.

Taxis - These distant relatives of the US taxi system are now all yellow and will beep their horns to alert possible passengers that they available. Taxis are very reasonably priced and can even be rented hourly or for trips to specific destinations.

Rental cars - Many of the same companies that service the US are in Panama as well. Prices for rentals cars can be reasonable via the Internet but very high in office. The style of driving in the country suggests that Panama tourists be careful when renting cars and strongly consider purchasing the insurance.

Airplanes - The country has a good regional service for Panama tourism. Fees are reasonable and service connects the major destinations within the country such as David, Bocas del Toro, the Pearl Islands and Colon.

Boats - Along the coasts, there is some use of boats for Panama tourism but this is not a widespread. Boats are also not recommended for tourists traveling from Panama to Columbia due to safety concerns at the border; only airplane travel is viable between these two countries.

Panama Attractions

Panama is a country filled with activities. Starting in Panama City with the ruins of the ancient city, the rainforest, the Panama Canal are all an interesting visit. Throughout the country, the Carnival (held near the end of February), numerous fairs, concerts and traditional events dot the country. The country is fanatical about their national baseball league and the Panamanians such as Mariano Rivera who play in the major leagues. Soccer and basketball games are always available to be enjoyed and activities such as swimming, surfing, and fishing add to Panama tourism's appeal to the sportsman. If you are a truly avid fisherman take a charter out to the "Tuna Coast," the Panama Pacific where a large number of world records have been set in sport fishing.

Fort Lauderdale Sport Fishing Charters - The Perfect Way To Get Away

Whether it's the peaceful and serene beauty of being on the ocean, the excitement of a Sailfish or Dolphin erupting from the water, the brute strength of a Tuna or the drag-searing run of a Wahoo or Kingfish, the local waters off of Fort Lauderdale are the best place to go. During an offshore sportfishing excursion you can encounter any of the species listed above.

Sailfish are the most acrobatic and energetic game fish that inhabit the offshore waters of South Florida. A local Fort Lauderdale Sport fishing Captain will use many different tactics to catch Sailfish, the most exciting tactic we use is Live Bait Kite fishing. When we kite fish we suspend live baits from a fishing kite, the live baits sit just inches under the surface of the water so they splash and create sound waves which penetrate into the depths and ripples which magnify across the surface. These sound waves and ripples get the Sailfish and other offshore pelagic species attention. The Yacht Club at Aventura - A Relaxed Lifestyle in the Middle of the City

After incredibly emerging from a swamp land, Aventura has established itself as world class small organized city offering great luxury condominiums to live in. The majority of the city has grown vertical with amazing residential high rises like the Portfino Towers, the Atlantic condos, the Mystic Point condos and the spectacular Hidden Bay Aventura. Today the city is almost built out and there are very few pieces of land left to be developed. But one very unique and cozy condominium stands apart from the others, it is the tranquil and relaxed residential enclave called the Yacht Club at Aventura.

Nestled in a spectacular waterfront 11 acres piece of land, the Yacht Club at Aventura is a truly unique luxury condominium community. It is composed of nine charming building blocks with very beautiful Mediterranean style architecture. Unlike the majority of its neighboring high-rise buildings, each residential structure at the Yacht Club at Aventura has only six floors in height. It is located right on the shore of the Intracoastal Waterways and features a spectacular marina. Every unit has terraces with views to the water or to the Fairmont Turnberry golf course.

The community is very family oriented and it is a secluded gated safe place that many have chosen to establish their home. Not so many new condos today enjoy the luxury of an expansive piece of land with beautiful landscaping like the Yacht Club at Aventura. This wonderful urban retreat has enough land to accommodate two great tennis courts, a resort style swimming pool, a club house, a business center, a gym, a racquet ball course, a children's playground and lots of parking spaces for visitors and residents alike.

Aventura is just a short 20 minutes drive from downtown Miami, Brickell and South Beach. It is also just a short 15 minutes distance away from Fort Lauderdale and its international airport and 30 minutes by car to the Miami International Airport making it a very convenient and centrally located place to live.

Stress Release Through Visualization

Stress kills and that is a fact. Using visualization to deal with stress is not only effective it is a fun way to spend thirty minutes a day.

By following some simple tips you can become a master at visualization in no time. The best part is visualization is not only good for stress relief, it can be used to master a sport, prepare yourself for that job interview, build self confidence and many other things. Practice these tips until you can do them at will. In order for visualization to be effective you need to get to a point where you can turn it off and on like a switch. The only way to reach this point is through practice and determination. Everyone is different, so do not get discouraged if it seems like you are taking a long time to get the hang of it. Stick with it, it will come, you will be glad you did. Before you start it is imperative you have two things available.

1. A quiet secluded place where you can be for thirty minutes a day.

2. A soothing sound that can be played in a thirty minute loop. Make sure it is sound without vocals.

Some ideas for the type of sounds would be a soothing ambient background sound, a light rain or thunder storm or baroque music.

These are just examples, everyone is different so find whatever calms you and play it in a looping low volume in the background.

Visualization works best when you are able to watch yourself performing the task. You want to train yourself to watch as if you are floating above and watching a movie that you are directing. Anything that you can visualize you can do.

Remember to practice, each time you do this the easier it will become.

Turn on your relaxing sounds and lay down in a quiet place. You want to spend your first ten minutes releasing tension. I recommend you use this technique. First memorize these ten points.

Point 1 - Left ear

Point 2 - Right ear

Point 3 - Forehead

Point 4 - Right arm

Point 5 - Left arm

Point 6 - Chest & heart

Point 7 - Left leg

Point 8 - Right leg

Point 9 - Right foot

Point 10 - Left foot

Following in order from point 1 to point 10 spend 1 minute on each area. Tense up the area for ten seconds and then release for ten seconds. Do this 3 times each point for a total of one minute. You can tense the ear area by biting down on that side and feel the tension build in your ear. For your forehead you can crinkle up your skin. The point is to create tension then release. At the end of ten minutes you will be pretty relaxed. This step is very important. The reason it is important, is you need to completely eliminate any distractions so that you can concentrate on visualization.

Now you should be ready to start your visualization movie. You are going to direct a movie in your head and watch it with yours minds eye. You will be the star of this movie. Here is an example of a type of relaxing movie to direct: " You are getting out of your car and you feel the warmth of the suns rays hit your skin. You feel a slight breeze and can smell the salt in the air. You are of course at the beach. You look down towards the beach and you hear the seagulls chirping above. You look up and watch them for a second and then look back ahead at the waves rolling in. As you walk up to the perfect area you have found right next to a palm tree that provides just the right amount of shade, you step down and feel the beach sand go through your toes. Notice how the sand feels. Immerse yourself in the scene. You take out your blanket and lay down."

Hopefully you get what I mean by directing the scene. Lets say you want to direct a scene for a visualization that you have never experienced before. No problem, I recommend you do a search on google and find a video that will give you the feeling, sounds and visual aids that you need to create your own movie. Watch it over and over till you can picture it in your mind and then recreate it into your own movie your way with you as the main character.

As you do this it will become easier each time. This technique has a accumulative affect.

Good luck and happy visualizing

Fort Lauderdale Real Estate - Foreclosures And The New Property Tax Relief Proposal

Broward County is one of the most progressive area in th estate of Florida. The county has a population of about 1,787,636 ; which makes it the second most populated county in the state.

Its county seat and largest city is Fort Lauderdale. The county has a vibrant economic, tourism, education, and arts & cultural scene, and despite the temporary concerns brought about by the US housing slump, its economy remains vibrant and residents here remain upbeat about long-term prospects when it comes to housing and mortgages.

County Housing Market Figures For January 2008

With most of the US housing market slumbering because of the mortgage crisis, home prices and sales of existing homes dropped last January, as the downturn in South Florida's housing market has entered into its third year.

In Broward County, the median price slid by 14 percent in January 2008, to $314,200, down from 364,500 a year ago, according to the Florida Association of Realtors. Home sales have dipped by 33 percent, to 307 from 458. It was the fewest homes to change hands in any month countywide since the Florida Association of Realtors started releasing monthly housing figures in the mid-90's.

The housing depression is also seen in Palm Beach County, across the state and elsewhere in the US. According to data from the National Association of Realtors in January the median price for a home was pegged at $201,100, and was down further for the fifth consecutive month.

Will Foreclosures Further Depress Home Prices?

According to local housing analysts, the expected swelling of foreclosures this year is expected to further add to the excess of homes already on the selling block.

In Broward County last month, 2,745 homeowners were notified by their lenders that they intend to take back the properties, which nearly tripled from 949 the previous year. According to housing analysts from Metrostudy, the foreclosures are going to continue to depress home prices, therefore 2008 will still be a generally soft year.

According to a county housing analyst, a lot of home buyers today who don't have a convincing reason to purchase now are holding off, and cautiously waiting for the housing boom's inflated prices to continue falling to more reasonable levels. The county housing observers further added that housing prices in Broward still remains unaffordable for a large segment of the people who work here, which gives them second thoughts about buying homes.

How County Residents Are Taking Stock Of The Property Tax Relief Proposal

The state's referendum passed on Jan. 29, which allows residents to transfer Save Our Homes tax breaks from their existing home to newly purchased ones, limits how much a home's tax value can increase each year to no more than 3 percent, which allows many homeowners built up huge tax cushions during the real estate boom years. The county's Homeowners have also lined up to take their tax breaks with them to a new home in the month, because voters approved a property tax relief proposal allowing the long-sought ability to transfer savings.

The county's Property Appraiser's Office is also preparing itself for hundreds more to come in before the proposal's deadline. Most of those filing are residents who have bought larger homes within their current communities. However, for those leaving the county and taking their tax breaks elsewhere in Florida, analysts note that the areas of St. Lucie and Lake counties should be preferred destinations.

According to the county's property appraiser, "people had been in a holding pattern waiting to see what happened with the referendum, but they now can move and not worry about their taxes going through the roof."

The county appraiser also notes that those who sold their home and purchased a new one last year are eligible to benefit from portability on this fall's tax bills, and individuals who have moved this year can also apply for portability; however it won't apply until the tax bills that come out in fall 2009.

Vacationing at Vilano Beach Florida

When vacationing on a beach in Florida, Miami Beach is the one that most commonly comes to mind. However, many tourists and locals alike are starting to find enjoyment in vacationing at Vilano Beach, which is just two miles from St. Augustine, which is known as the "Nation's Oldest City". Nestled between the river identified as "Tolomato" and the beautiful Atlantic Ocean, Vilano Beach has been described as "St. Augustine's Best Kept Secret". It was nicknamed this due to the fact that it is a relatively quiet beach that most locals visit due to the fact that there are not overcrowding issues due to tourists.

Despite the fact that many locals enjoy visiting this isolated beach, they are very willing to share the "secret" location with guests. In the earliest days of St. Augustine history a man named Henry Flagler attracted many visitors to the city due to the fact that he constructed and opened several luxury hotels in the area. As more and more people began to flock into the area, there were ferries and even horse carriages that would take the visitors to the luxurious shores of Vilano Beach. By the time 1926 rolled around, tourists were highly attracted to the area. This came as a result of the Grand Vilano Casino being constructed near the beach by a man named August Heckscher.

If you are interested in vacationing at Vilano Beach, you will find that it is a great destination for allowing you to personally take part in the Florida experience. Seeing that the beach is only a short distance from the notably historical St. Augustine, Florida, there are many sights and attractions that you may enjoy. The city is known for its fascinating ghost stories. You may take part in both day and night ghost hunts that occur on foot, by trolley, and by water. In addition to this, there are many historical places to visit such as the Castillo de San Marcos, or the "Old Fort" as locals call it, the mansion that houses Ripley's Believe it or Not, as well as the Old Spanish Military Hospital.

If you enjoy fishing, there are many areas apart from Miami - which is a vacation hot spot for fishing - where you may enjoy a little time catching fish. You may fish in both salt water areas as well as fresh water areas. There are a total of nine unique habitats where you may discover many different types of wildlife animals and over one hundred species of birds that you may enjoy seeing while on your Florida vacation. You may also get to observe various types of sea life such as sea turtles, dolphins playing at sea, and even manatees! If you enjoy fishing, observing animals, or simply want to capture the "heart" of the Florida's wildlife, Vilano Beach is the place to be!

There are many different hotels, villas, apartments, condos, and town houses that are available in and around the Vilano Beach area. Many of these accommodations may be included in on a Florida vacation package. If you want to experience the salt, the white sands, and the fun that northeast Florida has to offer, make your reservations for Vilano Beach. It will be a vacation experience like you have never before experienced!

Miami South Beach - An International Beach Americans Can Visit Without a Passport

I just love South Beach in Miami. Some people think of it as the international playground for the rich, famous and beautiful people but not me; I live in Florida so I know the 'real' South Beach and trust me you find all kinds there. I have a friend I met while in college recently come back for a visit. He's French and is used to international type beaches, shops, cafes and clubs and often brags that there isn't anything like them anywhere else in the world so while he was here I set out to change his mind.

The first place I took him was, of course, to Lummus Beach. It couldn't have been more perfect if I had planned it, which I hadn't. They where doing a photo shoot for some fashion magazine right there on the beach, my friend was impressed. As we walked along we saw people playing volleyball, building sand castles and wading.

After we finished our walk on the beach we went to a hotel in the Art Deco area, these hotels are dotted all along Ocean Ave. in South Beach and are really great to just walk on the other side of the street and look at. Some of the most recognized ones are the Colony and the Clevelander. South Beach has the largest collection of Art Deco architecture in the world.

After we went back and got clean up from our day at the beach we headed back to Ocean Ave. for a early dinner at one of the many sidewalk cafes there. If you get there early or in the off season you can get some great deals for dinner and even happy hour drinks. The food in South Beach is world class, many of the chefs' train abroad and then bring their culinary skills home to us. As you'd imagine there's a strong Cuban influence as seen is dishes such as paella and all their wonderful pork and chicken dishes - yum. My friend was impressed with his dinner and I was pleased, after all he's been to some of the best restaurants in France no less; this guy knows a good meal when he gets one and he did.

After we ate I took him to a place called Mango's Tropical Cafe. This place is WILD. When you walk in the first thing you'll notice is that the whole place is painted with bright florescent paint, then you'll see this huge bar jutting out from the middle with dancers on it. Did a mention the dancers, and wait staff for that matter, are very scantily clad? I wasn't able to drag my friend out of there so we could go clubbing until around midnight but that's ok most of the clubs in South Beach don't close until 4 a.m.

They have a whole section of town, mainly Washington Ave., that has several upscale clubs. One of the most well known is the Mansion, they have special guest DJ's on occasion as well as musical guests. B.E.D. (Beverage, Entertainment and Dining) and Cameo are a couple more, B.E.D. New York was even featured on an episode of Sex and the City; all these clubs are located on Washington Ave. My friend and I dragged our butts in at about 2 a.m., which was relatively early by SoBe standards, because we still had one more day together and I had to take him shopping.

So as I was driving my friend to the airport we were discussing all we had seen and done and he agreed, finally, that South Beach was pretty international after all. I tried to tell him that but I'm glad he chose to come and see for himself, we really did have a blast.
